Just inland of Durban, on the coastal escarpment between Pinetown and Hillcrest, is the Krantzkloof Nature Reserve. It is the spectacular meeting place of two river gorges, the Molweni and Nqutu. Situated only 4 kilometres from the centre of Kloof, this reserve was established by the Natal Parks Board in 1950 and is now managed by Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife.

The best known attraction at Krantzkloof is the well developed picnic area adjacent to the dam at the head of Kloof Falls. The second Nkutu picnic site at 62 Valley Drive (29°44’49″S & 30°50’55″E) is also very popular and this entrance is open on weekends and public holidays.

There are a number of marked trails leaving from the two picnic sites which allow visitors the chance to view the falls or descend into the gorge, following the river course. Ask security for the map which is available for a small fee of R20 (2019).

A gate entry fee is payable on entry at both of the main picnic sites - refer to our website for the latest tariff.

There are two guided trails each month on the first and third Sunday of each month starting at 8am. See the website for more details.

If you have any great photos of Krantzkloof, views or creatures, please post them on this Facebook page. Thanks!
